The high-performance M-Series expands to four models with the return the M-Roadster at the bottom and the M5 sedan at the top. The M-Roadster is powered by the 3.2L DOHC, I-6 engine used in the M3, that develops 330 hp. It is mated to an all-new 6-speed manual gearbox that has a lighter feel to the shift lever, shorter throws, more effective synchronizers, firmer gear engagement, improved bearing lubrication and lifetime transmission oil. Chassis refinements allow for better handling with higher cornering speeds. The M5 sedan is powered by a new 5L V-10 engine rated at 500 hp that is channeled through a new 7-speed automatic transmission with manual shift control and variable-lock rear differential. The electronically controlled suspension and stability control system have been specifically calibrated to handle the added drivetrain performance. The iDrive system has a special setting that allows the driver to pre-program favored performance and handling settings. A head-up display is optional. Changes for the M3 lineup include standard leather upholstery and an optional power rear-window sunshade on the coupe.
