The lineup of heavy-duty pickups has been expanded to include a new Mega Cab body style featuring the industry's largest-ever crew cab with 145.2 cu.-ft. (4.1 cm) of interior space. It is available in a 1500 HD, variant as well 2500-Series and 3500-Series models, all with gross vehicle weight rating in excess of 8,500 lbs. (3,856 kg). Configured for six adult passengers, Mega Cab is the first pickup to offer a reclining rear seatback. It rides on the 160.5-in. (4,077-mm) wheelbase of the Ram 2500/3500 long-bed Quad Cab, substituting a 6-ft. (1.8-m) cargo box for the Quad Cab's 8-ft. (2.4-m) box to make room for the additional cab length. Available in rear and 4-wheel-drive models, Mega Cab 1500 is available only with a 5.7L V-8, while the 2500-series comes with a standard 5.7L V-8 or optional Cummins Engine Co. 5.9L turbodiesel powerplant. Mega Cab 3500 comes standard with the Cummins engine. In addition, all Ram HD models have revised exterior styling and redesigned interiors. A redesigned grille and front bumper provide a more aggressive look, larger headlamps provide 22% more light and more sound insulation and better sealing reduces interior noise. Rear doors on Quad Cab variants now open to an 85-degree angle for better access and rear door window glass retracts fully into the door.
